This week we will look at the book of Proverbs. Summarizing the Book of Proverbs is a bit difficult because there is no particular plot or storyline or main character found in its pages. If we could summarize Proverbs with one word it would be Wisdom—a grand, divine wisdom that transcends the whole of history, peoples, and cultures. The book contains 100s and 1000s of one-liners for human life and relationships. King Solomon is the principal writer of Proverbs. In this book his intention is to pass along all the things he has learned to his son Rehoboam, and by extension all who read the book of Proverbs. Solomon’s wrote these proverbs in 900 B.C. Solomon’s wisdom was renowned throughout the world. Foreign dignitaries from the far reaches of the known world traveled great distances to hear the wise Solomon speak. We too should hear. Proverbs 4:5 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. |
